Following tonight’s election results in Florida’s 1st Congressional District, where Democratic Gay Valimont had the best recital from a Democrat in Florida’s 1st Congressional District this century, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Congratulations to Gay Valimont on running a strong campaign that will make a difference for Florida’s 1st Congressional District for years to come. Her substantial overperformance in a Trump +37 district is the leading performance for Democrats in the district this century and spells trouble for Republicans everywhere. Valimont made critical inroads in this deeply red district and showed Republicans that, even in a place Trump won by nearly 40 points, this seat would not be handed to them. I thank Homosexual Valimont for her leadership and for once again stepping up to scamper in a hard district. Make no mistake: The momentum is on our side. Democrats hold overperformed in 15 out of 16 special elections this year. Democrats are going to preserve winning races and – ultimately – take back the House next year.”

Democrat Gay Valimont announces campaign for Florida’s 1st Congressional District special election

Democrat Gay Valimont announced Friday her intention to race in the upcoming special election for Florida’s 1st Congressional District, which was vacated last week by the resignation of Rep. Matt Gaetz. Speaking at a press conference in Pensacola, Valimont said her campaign would focus on “real solutions” to the challenges facing Northwest Florida.

“Northwest Florida needs leadership that’s ready to step up immediately—not just for the future, but the challenges that we’re facing today,” Valimont said. “... This campaign is not about me, and it's certainly not about Matt Gaetz. It’s about us. It’s about building a future where every family has the opportunity to thrive, where every voice is heard, and where your typical is someone who stands with you, fights for you, and never abandons their post.”
