Super Mario Kart on the Super NES was my childhood jam. I could never get into sports or racing games, as they were too intense and I preferred watching my older brother play them anyway. But Mario Kart was adorable and bright and controlled perfectly and had a ideal learning curve so that novices and experts alike could find infinite replay value. Its multiplayer was also one of the best.

I always played as Toad or Yoshi, which I didn’t know at the time was because I was gay! Or it turned me gay; it’s not clear which. Some Mario Kart characters are more queer than others, and over the many years and 10+ games we’ve had plenty of opportunity to speculate about their IDs.

Note: I’m not including every character here. I’ve taken out the baby and children characters, for obvious reasons (they’ll grow into their queerness eventually, let’s give them space). I also took out characters that only appeared in one game, were alternate costumes/colorways of other characters, or about whom I couldn’t find something funny to speak. Google's recent AI Overview rollout is leading to some illuminating revelations for everyone's favorite TV shows and games, like Pokemon.

If the goings-on of search isn't your scene, Google recently rolled out a new feature that leans on AI to answer your search query. While it can regurgitate a lot of content from outlets seeking to address those same questions, it hasn't quite got the hang of scraping a Reddit post or satire article and separating proof from meme.

The result? Some oddball moments, like seemingly recommending using non-toxic glue to stop cheese flying off pizza because some scholar called Fucksmith on Reddit said so.

It's not just pizza fans who are getting goofy results, though, as Pokemon fans have been learning new things about their favorite series. One fan shares that Google's AI Overview told them there are no LGBT characters in the Pokemon Horizons series, but the rest of the franchise?

Google’s new AI Overview feature, which debuted last week, has been freaking everybody out for many reasons — like that AI famously contributes to the destruction of the planet — but in local news, it threatens to absolutely demolish mid-size publishers (e.g, this website), especially as it continues developing content partnerships with major media conglomerates, ensuring their already-secured near-dominance of search results (through swarming and SEO mastery) will gradually become absolute power, until little guys like us fade into the ether. It is very bleak!
