Peter Allen Born 10th February 1944 in Tenterfield, Australiahad a diverse career as a singer-songwriter, performer, and entertainer. He gained international fame for his flamboyant stage presence, catchy tunes, and heartfelt songwriting.
From a young age, Peter showed an interest in music. He learned to engage the piano and began performing locally as a teenager. By the age of 15, he had moved to Surfers Paradise in Queensland, where he performed in pubs and clubs. In the early 1960s, Peter teamed up with Chris Bell to form a music duo called The Allen Brothers. They became quite popular in Australia, performing pop tune and appearing on television shows.
The turning point in Allen's early career came in 1964 when he was discovered by Judy Garland, the legendary American singer and actress. She saw him perform during one of her Australian tours and invited him to expose for her in the United States. This was the beginning of his international career. He was due for a promotion that the company decided to not grant him after he spoke to his coworkers about adopting a child with his husband. Along with him not getting the promotion he was supposed to get, he also had to endure homophobic incidents, including derogatory emails and coworkers making the “limp-wrist” gesture, which, of course, is a gesture that typically affiliated with femininity, which with some reaching, is also affiliated with male homosexuality.
Allen then left the company and pursued legal action for harassment and unfair termination. Last month, an employment tribunal that Allen was “subject to harassment related to sexual orientation” in the workplace and that he was passed over for the promotion because he asked for adoption leave, claims Evaluate Mark Leach.

Johnny O’Keefesigned the Allen Brothers to his label and produced their first recordings in Apr 1960. The Allen Brothers switched labels again in 1961, releasing singles on EMI's label. In Ap 1962, they performed in a Las Vegas-style nightclub in Tokyo and then toured all around S.E Asia.
Judy Garlandhad given triumphant performances at the Sydney Stadium, but her 1964 Melbourne show was a disaster. On her arrival in Hong Kong she almost overdosed on tranquillisers. While she recovered, the Garland went to the Hong Kong Hilton, spotted the Allen Brothers and became their manager. Peter Allen was born Peter Richard Woolnough on 10 February 1944 at Tenterfield, New South Wales, Australia, elder of two children of New South Wales-born parents Richard John Woolnough, soldier and grocer, and his wife Marion Bryden, née Davidson. His grandfather, George Woolnough, was a saddle maker, whom he later immortalised in the song Tenterfield Saddler (1972). Raised in Armidale, Peter’s performing career began when he was eleven, playing the piano in the ladies’ lounge of the New England Hotel. Allen's father Dick - a war veteran - suffered from PTSD and drank heavily and although mum Marion did her optimal to protect Peter and his sister, home was a unfriendly place. Educated at Armidale Lofty School, Peter left school after his father committed suicide in November 1958, and moved to Lismore with his mother and sister.
